Technology Solutions Briefing (TSB)

This annual technology event provides our consortium districts with a half-day of intensive briefings for K-12 technology leaders and decision makers. These briefings focus on the latest technology solutions that school districts should consider as part of making any strategic technology decision. The TSB program includes LHRIC, district, and vendor experts presenting on the latest trends and specific technologies that will most significantly impact education and affect the job of technology leadership in schools. Additionally, these briefings will cover what changes are most likely to occur regarding the deployment and use of technology in the foreseeable future. Buffet breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Date: Dec 9, 2011

Site: Edith Macy Conference Center, Briarcliff Manor, NY

Agenda:

Breakfast: 7:30 AM-8:30AM

Sessions: 8:30AM-1:00PM

Lunch: 1:00 PM-2:00PM

Topics:

> Wireless Technology - The requirement for mobility and access to information and resources anywhere, anytime is critical and spans a wide array of devices such as: computers, smartphones, and tablets. This discussion will cover the value and expected outcomes of a network assessment and RF survey, planning for high-density coverage, WLAN design -accounting for unique district requirements, video over wireless, and the security and fault tolerance concerns of allowing users to bring their own devices to school.

> Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) - One of the most popular topics in K-12 educational technology today is BYOD. The LHRIC, along with Dyntek, will host an in-depth conversation around “Bring Your Own Device” strategies. We will explore some of the strategies and challenges that districts face regarding BYOD and discuss the impact this trend is already having on K-12 technology implementations.

> Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) - The goal of this session is to bring more awareness to district technology leaders around the topic of Hosted Virtual Desktops (HVD’s), which is growing in interest among K-12 schools nationwide. Join us as we discuss answers to the following key questions: What is VDI? What are the delivery solutions? What are the concepts around Desktop Virtualization? How can you develop a use case for it in your environment?

> Mobile Device Management (MDM) - The LHRIC and McAfee will join together to review the emerging K-12 demand for “Mobile Device Management”. As mobile devices begin to proliferate our schools, management solutions have become increasingly important. Coincidently, there is an increasing variety of MDM solutions available for K-12 environments. Join us as we consider some of the questions and concerns surrounding this new educational technology challenge.
